this piece properly received the most research of my original works lol. i wanted to draw koi, but they didn't look right. i was also inspired by the Death in Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels having 'skeletal fish' swimming in the waters in his domain, but when i tried sketching them they turned out really tacky and ugly, so oh well.
the character above her hand is the japanese character 'shi' (meaning 'death' ). i fail it drawing/writing kanji lol.
japanese ghosts have no legs and feet. in japanese theatre, this trait was commonly depicted by the actors wearing very long kimonos.
i also heard somewhere that japanese ghosts were burning in green flames where their feet and legs should be, but it just didn't look right in the sketch either. blah.

oh btw. ref used for pose and kimono. xD the fan was a pain to draw.
